Jewellery Care

  • Always store your jewellery in the plastic (air-tight) zip-lock bag in which it came in to protect from tarnishing (oxidization) caused by free radicals in the air.
  • Polish each piece with a microfiber cloth after wear, to remove fingerprints and other residue
  • Avoid contact with perfumes, oils, lotions, makeup, etc
  • If your sterling silver jewellery starts to turn a golden shade (the first sign of tarnish!), it needs to be cleaned. If your sterling silver jewellery has turned dark grey/black, it definitely needs to be cleaned!
  • Electrolyte cleaning is recommended. You can google/youtube this method for photo/video demos, or simply follow these directions: (safe for pearls and crystals)
      • Line a shallow dish with tinfoil (shiny side up)
      • Lay jewellery on foil
      • Coat jewellery with a generous amount of baking soda
      • Pour nearly boiling water over jewellery
      • You will notice a foaming reaction and slight sulfur smell
      • This is the chemical reaction between the tinfoil and baking soda, which almost instantly removes tarnish from sterling silver
      • Use a wooden utensil to move jewellery around on foil, making sure each side touches foil
      • Leave jewellery to soak for a few minutes
      • Stubborn (old) tarnish may take a few repetitions of this method
